Richard Amos 8th Dan, is well known for having completed the three-year JKA instructors' program in Tokyo in 1994, becoming only the second westerner ever to do so in the JKA's 50-year history. A former Karate Union of GB junior national champion and British team member.
Sensei Amos enjoyed several years on the powerful KUGB national team during the boom years of Shotokan Karate in Europe during the early 1980's
He passed Sandan under Enoeda Sensei in 1984, then left England for the USA in 1986.
In early January 1989 he decided to dedicate himself to training at the Headquarters of the Japan Karate Association in Ebisu, Tokyo. There he worked under the daily tutelage of Sohokan legends such as Asai, Ueki, Abe, Tanaka, Yahara, Osaka, Kawawada and Kagawa and graduated from their prestigious instructors class in the spring of 1994 after a 3-year apprenticeship. For the next 6 years he taught daily at the JKA honbu dojo, as one of their resident instructors, and at his own dojo in Tokyo
In 1998 he placed second in the kata and third in the kumite in the JKA World Championships in Switzerland. He was judged overall Champion.
In 2000, Sensei Amos moved back to New York and along with John Mullin, formed the World Traditional Karate Organization (WTKO) of which he is currently the Chief Instructor.
