Students from Swinton Karate attended a Kata & Freestyle course with Sensei George Best, former world freestyle champion, and Sensei Fred Harrison, former world Kata champion.

Jiyu Ippon Kumite
Jiyu Ippon Kumite Is the first of the preset sparing techniques for senior grade students.
It is broken into different levels of attack, Jodan Oi Zuki, Chuden Oi Zuki, Mei Geri, Mawashi Geri, Yokogeri Kekkomi, Ushiro Geri. Kizamizuki Jodan and Gyaku Zuki Chudan and is practised with both a left and right hand attack.
Oi Zuki Jodan.
Attacker steps forward Oi Zuki Jodan. Defender blocks shuto uke on the inside and counters with Gyaku Zuki Chudan.
Attacker steps forward Oi Zuki Jodan. Defender steps forward to meet the attack and deflects the attacking arm while simultaneously countering with Gyaku Zuki Chudan. The defender then pushes the attackers to enable him to make distance.
Attacker steps forward Oi Zuki Jodan. Defender blocks with Gyaku Jodan Age Uke and replies with Mawashi Geri Chudan followed by Gyaku Zuki Chudan.
Attacker steps forward Oi Zuki Jodan. Defender steps forward to meet the attack, and sweeps the attackers arm with a strong clockwise rotation of the hips, followed by a rapid counter clockwise rotation providing momentum for a counter attack to the sternum. This is followed by a push to the attackers shoulder as in example two.
