Swinton Karate Club is a non political independent Shotokan Karate Club.
Swinton Shotokan Karate Club is a member of Cobra Martial Arts Association, an independent multi styles martial arts association. C.M.A.A. provide SKC with insurance for both Instructors and Students, with the added benefit of being an umbrella group for the Criminal Records Bureau and Certified First Aid Assessors.
C.M.A.A. also have their own highly respected Code of Practice for Instructors which SKC have completed
Many people have had to curtail their training in martial arts due to injury. For this reason, SKC instructors place a great deal of importance on biomechanics - ensuring that techniques are performed correctly and have a long term beneficial effect on bodies, especially knees, hips, elbows and backs.
This does not mean however that training is always simple and relaxed, far from it; training should be challenging for mind, body and sole: the simple saying..."what you don't use, you loose" is very true, when people continue to exercise, their physical and mental health are much better than that of people who don't exercise, and when you stop being challenged you can become complacent.
Club History
The club was originally founded around 1980 by Sensei Malcolm Johnson as "Red Sun Shotokan Karate Club"
Sensei Johnson retired in 1999, and the remaining members decided that as the highest grade Colin Needham should take charge as the clubs new chief instructor.
In September 2006, Swinton Karate Club became a member ofSalford Sports Council.
